Ardha Matsyendrasana, or Half Spinal Twist, is a seated twist that stretches the spine, stimulates the digestive organs, and enhances circulation. This pose is especially beneficial for stimulating the pancreas and liver, which are crucial for managing diabetes. It also helps with detoxification and improves digestion.

How to Perform Matsyendrasana:

1. Starting Position:

    • Sit on the floor with your legs extended in front of you.
    • Bend your right knee and place your right foot on the outside of your left thigh.
    • Keep your left leg extended or bend the left knee and tuck your left foot near your right hip, depending on your flexibility and comfort.

2. Twist the Torso:

    • Inhale, lengthen your spine, and sit tall.
    • Exhale and twist your torso to the right, bringing your left arm around the outside of your right knee.
    • Place your right hand behind you on the floor for support, close to your spine, to help deepen the twist.
    • Use the leverage of your arm pressing against your knee to deepen the twist while keeping your spine straight and elongated.

3. Hold the Pose:

    • Keep your gaze over your right shoulder and continue to breathe deeply.
    • Hold the pose for 20 to 30 seconds, or longer if comfortable, while focusing on each breath helping you twist a little deeper with each exhale.

4. Release and Switch Sides:

    • Exhale and slowly release the twist, coming back to the center.
    • Switch sides by repeating the pose with your left leg bent and twisting to the left.
